THE IMPERFECT TENSE

It is formed by taking the stem of the infinitive and adding  the endings as follows Ar verbs  e.g. habl ar Yo habl aba Tú habl abas Él/ella/usted habl aba Nosotros habl ábamos Vosotros habl abais Ellos/ellas/ustedes habl aban
Er  verbs E.g. com er Yo com ía Tú com ías Él/ella/usted com ía Nosotros com íamos Vosotros com íais Ellos/ellas/ustedes com ían
E.g. viv ir Yo viv ía Tú viv ías Él/ella/usted viv ía Nosotros viv íamos Vosotros viv íais Ellos/ellas/ustedes viv ían IR verbs

There are only  three irregular  verbs in the imperfect!
SER ERA ERAS ERA ÉRAMOS ERAIS ERAN IR IBA IBAS IBA ÍBAMOS IBAIS IBAN VER VE ÍA VEÍAS VEÍA VEÍAMOS VEÍAIS VEÍAN
The imperfect The preterite The imperfect sets the scene in the past and the preterite ‘crashes’into it, with a single action.
